Motorola’s G series of smartphones have always been one of the hottest favorites for users in mid-range segment. Motorola welcomes two new arrivals this year – Moto G4 Plus and Moto G4. But the Moto G4 Plus beats the LeEco Le 1s, Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, and Lenovo Zuk Z1 and the best front camera phone in India. If best camera is your need but budget is less, we recommend Moto G4 Plus.

  • Best work done on battery life
  • Manufacturer guarantees two years of updates
  • Superior camera quality
  • Best screen you can get on Moto G device

  • Fingerprint scanner is poorly implemented
  • Common plastic design is not so cool
  • Phone tends to overheat too fast

Generally, smartphones from Moto G series come with mainstream 5” display. With 5.5” of display, Moto G4 Plus falls into Phablet category as the most awaited upcoming budget smartphone in India. The display comes with 1920x1080p of resolution with great brightness levels, dual modes (vibrant or normal color), and wide viewing angles for watching movies. It is 9.8 mm slim and weighs just 155 gm. It feels much lighter and slimmer because of clever design. In this price bracket, most smartphones come with full metal uni-body construction. But Moto G4 Plus features removable plastic rear panel. But the battery is non-removable. But the inclusion of micro and nano SIM adapters is worthwhile.

It is yet another department where Moto G4 Plus is unbeatable in this price range. It features 16 MP camera and f2.0 aperture with laser autofocus to capture fantastic details while taking photos with great depth of field, rich colors and reduced noise.  The shutter speed is quite zippy and it instantly focuses on the subject. With full manual control, you can have a professional mode and HDR mode. For video recording, the resolution is set to 1080p. But you can record videos with qHD resolution at 120 fps.

Along with rear camera, it also has 5MP front shooter that is one of the best selfie cameras we have ever come across. It takes selfies with less noise, although the details are just average, making it the best front camera phone in India.

By default, HDR is active and it really works well with high contrast. Though it takes a little wait to process the images, results are quite amazing.

In low light, the camera struggles a bit and the results can be less than expected at night. You can adjust exposure by placing the finger on its screen. It is useful in dark settings. And you can hold it down to focus on the desired area.

Manual mode is another interesting addition to the camera. You can easily adjust ISO, white balance, contrast and shutter speed. Overall, the results are quite surprising. So, we can call it the best camera ever in the price range of up to $200.

Fingerprint Sensor

It is the first Smartphone from Motorola, with a fingerprint sensor. It is yet another revolutionary change. The screen features a small square sensor which is one of the most accurate and responsive sensors we have ever tried.

It can recognize your fingerprints in almost every angle. Hence, Moto G4 Plus is one of few devices which manage to recognize fingerprints and unlocks the phone 10 out of 10 times.

It comes on two models – 16GB storage and 2GB RAM or 32 GB storage and 3 GB RAM. In both models, it has Octa Core Snapdragon 617 processor. The performance is top-notch in both devices, thanks to stock user interface. So, there is no issue playing graphic-intensive games like N.O.V.A. 3 and Asphalt 8, along with playing 4K videos.

While getting hot, the phone becomes sluggish, menu animations turn choppy and it has seen a slight delay in response. In this phone, the processing power is one of the biggest leaps when compared to last versions of Moto G. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 processor with 2GB RAM delivers consistent performance.

To enjoy graphic-intensive games without any problem, it features 550 MHz, Adreno 405 GPU. We didn’t have any serious freezing, delays, or any warning signs on our testing period.

Battery Life – Nothing but the Best

In Moto G series, the earlier generation has impressed us a lot with their battery life. But the battery life of this upcoming budget smartphone is just average. It features 3000 mAh battery that managed to last from 9 am to 5 pm but needed charging thereafter. Thanks to Turbo charger that charges your phone from 10% to 75% within an hour. Another great thing is its audio output – both loudspeaker output and earpiece speaker is clear and loud.

Moto G4 Plus – Price and Release Date

This Upcoming Budget Smartphone is all set to release on July 25, 2016. It is exclusively available for booking on Amazon India at just Rs. 13,499 (around $200) for 32 GB version in both black and white colors. The 64 GB version is available at Rs. 14,999 (around $225).

The Moto G series has a proven track record in satisfying users looking for the smartphones that can do everything they want, without paying a huge fortune. Overall, the Moto G4 Plus has the potential to exceed your expectations. The Moto G4 Plus provides everything possible within just $200 to $250.  The camera quality is the most surprising part of G4 Plus, especially for those who have ever used smartphone of G series in the past. Only a few phones under Rs. 15000 can deliver picture quality better than what G4 Plus does.  Hence G4 Plus is the best front camera phone in India.

With the arrival of Plus model, Motorola is all set to take Moto G range to a whole new level without compromising anything. Despite its overheating issues, it is still the worthy successor in Moto G series. If you want a lower price alternative, you may choose to go for Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 which features metal unibody design and similar specifications.
